The Price Of Protest- The State’s War On Activism vs The Right to Work
A discussion about the alarming increase in the state’s powers to criminalise activists, leaving legitimate protesters intimidated and in debt. Climate activists are being targeted and even saintly Greta Thunberg risks being locked up. But protesters need to take people with them for their messaging to work and when Just Stop Oil stop the self-employed from getting to work, who benefits?
OUR PANELISTS:
Louise Leigh: our Altered State host. Louise will moderate the talk and take questions to the panel at the end. She will be joined by Jasmine York: an activist imprisoned following the Kill The Bill protests in Bristol; Dr Oscar Berglund: a Senior Lecturer at Bristol University’s School for Policy Studies who is an expert in civil disobedience and climate change activism; and Jess Etherington who can tell us about the letter of the law. Jess is a lawyer with McCue Jury and Partners who are specialists in human rights and civil liberties law.
