An Ex-Cult Member: How to forgive & move on
November 12, 2019 @ 7:30 pm - 9:30 pm
from £12Petra Velzeboer was born in the infamous Children of God Cult, a sexualised, uneducated, nomadic existence that led to a period of depression and suicidal ideation as she struggled to find her place in the world.
Working hard to get educated, build her resilience, and become a Psychotherapist and Coach on the outside, on the inside she held on to bitterness and anger at the perpetrators of her past. Through a decade of personal development, exploring trauma release methodologies and talking to countless people who’ve been through traumatic experiences as clients or guests on her podcast Adversity to Advantage, Petra finally sat with her mother for a 2 hour conversation where she practiced total empathy and the ability to see her mothers’ experience for the very first time from her point of view.
This talk is for you if you’ve ever…
- Held on bitterly to your past
- Feel anger towards your parents or perpetrators
- Get triggered by past events and the way they ‘hold you back’
- Feel like you’ll never be able to let something go
Petra is totally open about her story, the pain that held her back and the process of getting to a place of openness and empathy. She offers practical tools for making sense of your past, advice on where to go for further support and how words like healing and forgiveness are solely about you and no one else.
