The Be- Bop Club
The Be-Bop Club is Bristol’s longest-running modern jazz club and hosts gigs here at The Hen and Chicken on Thursday nights.
At the club’s helm is Andy Hague, an accomplished trumpeter, drummer, bandleader, composer and arranger who has quietly contributed to the jazz scene, especially here in Bristol.
The club presents gigs in mini-concert format with minimal chat in the audience, allowing bands to try out new material and the audience to enjoy the music without a lot of background noise. Supporting and promoting the ever-expanding pool of talented jazz musicians living in Bristol remains a high priority in the programme, but the club also presents bands from around the country on funded tours and high-profile guest soloists from the London scene performing alongside Bristol players.
Recent special guests have included saxophonists Dave O’Higgins, Ed Jones and Simon Spillett, trumpeter Quentin Collins and guitarist Nigel Price.
